WHO WE ARE
I have bred and trained German Shepherds for the past 40+ years. I have trained dogs for the U.S. Military, several Police agencies, the Indiana Department of Corrections, as well as many personal protection dogs. During the past 6 years, my son, Dustin, and I decided that we wanted to focus our attention on low cost public training in order to keep dogs in the homes and out of the local shelters.
I started apprenticing for my dad as a trainer at a very young age. He imported, bred and trained Doberman Pinschers. I joined the Army as a K-9 Handler and did this for 3 years. At that time I was offered a position as the Head Trainer at Fort Huachuca Arizona. I did that for an additional 6 years.
During my time in the Military I was introduced and fell in love with the German Shepherd breed. After leaving the Military I’ve owned bred and trained German Shepherds my entire life. Even though German Shepherds are my favorite breed, I love all breeds. I enjoy all aspects of training. It does not matter if it is teaching a poodle puppy to sit, or a 150 pound Cane Corso to do protection work.
Dog aggression has always been my drug of choice. There is nothing like the thrill of seeing a 70 pound dog drive a 200 pound decoy (person in a bite suit) to the ground. I love working with aggression. Rather its aggression on command or unwanted aggression.
Abby Pierce
Lead Trainer
Abby has always had a passion for dogs since she was very young. Her favorite thing about them is their intelligence and their loyalty to their owners. I first met Abby as a customer in one of our classes. She came to us for a Puppy Training class, in which she excelled in. She then enrolled in Basic Obedience, then Advanced Obedience, then Off-Leash Advanced Obedience. During these classes she was always at the top of her class. After all that she began doing bite work (Protection Dog Training) with us on her dog. Her German Shepherd is the youngest customer owned dog that we have ever done any type of bite work with. She has raised Diesel to be the picture-perfect German Shepherd. His obedience is outstanding, and his confidence is through the roof. I have never seen a customer’s dog that has been raised from 8 weeks of age by an owner that exhibits this level of perfection.
Abby began working with me as an apprentice and continues to grow in her natural ability to read a dog and develop a training plan that is perfectly suited to fit that dog’s needs. Over these past few months, she has conducted several of our classes and I have always received raving reviews of her professionalism and performance. Abby has become not only a huge asset to Walker’s K9 Services, but a dear friend.
